'Britain boasts fine deciduous trees, but the very finest are not to be domesticated.'

Interesting article here...not least for the achievement at Hilliers to grow this majestic specimen over significant time, but the closing sentence resonates.

At the beach scene of my design I'm alternating between potted Silver Birches during the cooler months, and Trachycarpus fortunei during the warmer months of the year, hence my interest in the article. When I saw that it was a potted Birch my alarms bells rang. The maples and hornbeams at Westminster Abbey for the wedding last weekend did in fact look stunning.
